Pattern

Flower Centre (make 2 pieces for the front and back)

Work continuous rounds without joining at the end of each round until the final round. Use a stitch marker to mark the first st of each round.

Flower Back Centre

With DK yarn and a 3mm crochet hook, make a mr.

Round 1 8dc into the mr (8 sts)

Round 2 2dc into each stitch around (16 sts).

Round 3 (2dc into 1st st, 1dc into next st) x 8 (24 sts)

Round 4 (2dc into 1st st, 1dc into next st, 1dc into next st) x 8,

then sl-st into first st of the round to join, cut the yarn and weave in end (32 sts).

Flower Front Centre

Make a second flower centre piece following rounds 1-4 above for the front of the flower centre.

In the front flower centre between rounds 2 and 3, add two safety eyes.

Make 2 French knots using pink yarn for the cheeks just under the eyes (as an alternative you could put one stitch of pink yarn under each eye to represent rosy cheeks).

Embroider a mouth using black yarn.

Petals

Place both the centre pieces together with right sides facing outwards. The petals will be worked through both sts of each of the two flower centres.

With the petal yarn colour of choice, make a slip knot on your hook and join the petal yarn through both loops of the centre pieces at the top of the face using a sl-st.

Ensuring the front and back flower centre pieces are aligned and working through both pieces, make 1dc and 1htr in the next stitch, and then in the next st work 1tr, 1etr, 1tr. In the next st work 1htr and 1dc. This completes the first petal.

Continue working around the flower centres making petals as follows (Sl-st into first st, 1dc and 1hdc into the next st, 1tr 1etr and 1tr into the next st and 1hdc, 1dc into the next st) x 7. Stuff the flower centre with a small amount of polyfil after the 6th petal is made then continue until you have 8 petals made.

Sl-st into the first stitch of the round to close, tie off and cut yarn leaving a long tail. Thread tail yarn through to the back of the back top of the flower. Sew key chain in place and fasten off.

NB. If you wish to make the petals in different colours, change colour on the last pull through of the last 1dc of each petal. Tie the yarn ends of the adjacent petals together to secure and tuck inside the flower centre.
